What is challengers cup?
This is the peak of competitive 40K! Clubs from around the country and the world will send 8 of their champions to compete and determine who is worthy of winning the Challengers Cup each year. This 8 person team event is entirely community-created and is the largest 8 person team event in the USA. Despite the scale of the Challengers Cup, each table features professionally designed, highly functional terrain as well as professional judge support. Not only does this event represent the highest level of competitive play, we also showcase the hobby at a scale that is unique to the Challengers Cup and team spirit as well. Thanks to the support of both regional and national organizations there is plenty more to make this the best event you can imagine!
The event will take place with three days of gaming September 11th-13th 2026, at the Western Sports Park in beautiful Farmington, UT.
Format and Rules
General Format
The Challengers cup uses a unique format designed to test players skill across both GW and WTC layouts. We believe that to be considered the best team, you should be proficient on BOTH widely accepted terrain formats. This also provides valuable experience for your team to carry with them to all other team events they attend.
At the Challengers Cup, we don’t believe that we know everything, that’s why we’ve assembled a committee of the best of the best players to provide their insight and experience. Each year we hold several meetings and address every aspect of our format for the coming event as a group. Our format team (with professional players from the U.S. national team as well as the best professional teams in the world) has worked tirelessly to maintain the best aspects of several formats to create one simple and easy to understand tournament. From pairing to playing there is a reason the Challengers Cup is the best team event the world has ever seen year after year.
The Rules Team
The Green Banner Challengers Cup Rules Team comprises top-level players and judges from around the world. The sanctity of the event is dependent on being built on a strong foundation that reflects the currently accepted competitive living rules set and adapts as the community requires. The Rules Team, like the rest of the Challengers Cup Organizers, deeply value what the participants desire and will poll the community if needed to determine the rulings/FAQs/and more leading up to the event.
